A Christmas wrap up

We had a great Christmas even without the snow.  We had 18 people (including the 5 of us) over for Christmas dinner and the rest of the day.  I think it would be fair to say fun was had by all.  We ate, we visited, we ate, we played games and we may have even managed to munch some more.  The big hit of the day were the 2 nerf guns that were under the tree Christmas morning.  Clark and Carter both got one and they have had a ball not to mention every other adult that was at our house.  I am sure that at some point throughout the day almost all of the  18 people that were here had their turn at launching velcro darts through the house:o)  The house was full of laughter and Christmas cheer.

I know having a house full helped me through the first Christmas (ever) of not seeing any member of my family.  I missed my family and not seeing their reactions to gifts given, but this really proves to me home is where the 5 of us are.

I have some pictures of my kids from Christmas morning that I thought I’d share with you all.

T – 5 hours

Yep, that’s about how long it will be before I’m hugging 2 of my nieces and brother and sister in law.  Just a bit of cleaning left to do before their arrival.  So, if you don’t hear from me for a few days you know why!

I bet y’all can guess what P. got for Christmas?

A birthday wrap up

Okay, the days always seem to get away from me as Christmas gets closer so I figured I would do this post in segments.  First I will do Shealyn’s birthday wrap up.  She had a great birthday.  She had her first girlfriend party this year.  She had 3 little friends over to our house and I painted fingernails and toenails.  They all had a great time and because I didn’t get permission from their parents I don’t have many pcitures to share from that party.

Then on her actual birthday we met daddy in town and had birthday lunch.  We then came home and waited as patiently as a 9 year old can wait for her daddy to get home so she could open her gifts from Michigan.  Then it was off to Grandma McNulty’s for a little get together with family.  Overall, she had a great day!

Yay!  Now Maizie can actually eat out of something other than a paper plate and a cool whip bowl.

Stay tuned for the Christmas wrap up.

Happy Birthday Holly

Happy Birthday to my sister in law, Holly.  Here’s to the other lady in my life that puts up with those McNulty boys ;0)!  We hope you have a great day!  You’ve now joined the ranks of the 36 year olds!

Happy Birthday Shealyn

Shealyn Nichole,

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that you are 9 today.  I remember the doctor putting you in may arms and the smiles that couldn’t be wiped from mine or your daddy’s face!  You are our firstborn.  You are high spirited, strong willed, loud, kind, bossy, helpful, and sensitive!  You like things your way and I see so many traits of what I consider a first born girl (ahem, I am one too).  You are forever debating anything we might let you and you are determined to have the last word.  You insist on being heard!  Inspite of the hard days you still continue to bring smiles to our faces.

On this, YOUR day I wish you all the best Gert.  I am so excited for what your future holds and I look forward to walking along side you—if you’ll let me:o)

Happy Birthday to the one and only Gertie Gert!

My little man finally did it!  The whole bike thing has been so frustrating for him.  The last time he even tried he had me helping him and kept blaming me for leaning and then just QUIT!  He would get so mad so easily.  I remember being just as frustrated as him after that bike session.  However, yesterday he just took his bike out on his own and was kind of working at it at his own pace.  Well, Clark was cleaning the garage and nonchalantly asked Carter if he wanted any help.  He took daddy’s help and the pictures explain the rest.  Daddy even took him on a long bike ride yesterday to learn how to stop and turn corners.  He’s learning and every time he hops on his bike he’s building more confidence.  He was even braving the 30 degree temps today to do more training wheel FREE bike riding.

Good Job Buddy!

Critter control

Okay, I’ve talked to a few people about my critter problem and they say I need to blog about it.  Feel free to laugh at me.  I’m not a wimp about much, but when it comes to rodents I am.  I am terrified of rodents and especially when I can hear them in my house.

Yeah, one night a couple of weeks ago I was sitting at my computer, Clark was upstairs, the kids and dog were sleeping and I heard the scurrying between my floors!  The next morning I heard the scurrying in my kitchen ceiling.  I called my exterminator and the dear man that he is because he appreciates my fear came out within 40 minutes of my call.  He investigated and found no signs of them in my house.  Whew!  He put out traps in the garage along with some poison (out of the way of children and pet).  We have caught 3 mice in the garage and I know for a fact one met its fate with the wheel of my van!  My exterminator said this is a bad year for mice.  The cold nights aren’t helping, but our subdivision used to be a field and there’s new construction.  What was I thinking?

Side note:  Our house in Michigan was built in 1954 and I can honestly say in the almost 12 years I lived there I NEVER had a sign of a mouse!  I loved my neighbor cats!

I digress.  Well, one morning I heard them in the wall of my jutted area in the kitchen.  Let’s just say I’m not sure I could save my kids from a rodent invasion.  They were oblivious to the noises so I nonchalantly left the kitchen and left them to fend for themselves against my villain.  I have this overwhelming fear that I’m going to reach for something and they’re going to run up my arm.  I shake my shoes every time I put them on;  I watch my steps to make sure one is not under me.  Mind you there’s not been a sign in my house, but I’m still cautious.

I talked to my friend Carrie yesterday and she happened to call me in the midst of scurrying.  She assured me with Maizie in the house they would smell her and not come in.  I felt better, but also felt better in the research I had done that schnauzers are rodent hunters.  Hmmmm, I have a cat in the shape of a Maizie Blue!

Yesterday, Shealyn and I made cupcakes for her to take in as a birthday treat.  I came down last night about 9:30 to put them in a container overnight and I would frost them in the morning.  Well, as I was reaching for the cupcake holder I caught a glimpse of SOMETHING.  I convinced myself it was a reflection from my glasses.  So I reached again and there he was at eye level.  I screamed, ran up the stairs while yelling for Clark.  Clark came running—he later told me it was a guttural scream and thought someone was in the house trying to hurt me.  There was, he just happened to be 3 inches long and a few ounces.  My exact words to Clark were, “you better find him and kill him!”  So my man’s man, protector, hero got down on his hands and knees in the pantry and started moving things around to find him.  He had the rolling pin in one hand while moving things around and mentioned to me it would be nice if I could come help him.  Um, yeah right, I was standing on a chair in the living room close enough only to see what he was doing.  Pretty soon he had him cornered and was calling Maizie over for help in the adventure.  Yeah, Maizie wouldn’t leave my side.  So much for a rodent hunter.  Realizing he’s not going to get any help with his mission he stands up, rolling pin poised and moves the jug that has this little critter cornered and out he scurries——-over Clark’s foot and under the stove!  He’s gone, vanished, can’t find him.  Hopefully Clark gave him a heart attack and he won’t back.  However, I’m a bit more realistic than that.  He’ll be back and probably with friends, but we’ll be prepared.  Clark said he would clean out the whole pantry tonight and check for any very small holes and fill them if need be, plus get traps.

Needless to say I put in a pretty restless night for fear he and his friends would be back and find their way up the stairs and into my room.  This morning I made Clark get most everything I would need for the day out of the pantry.  And as I very bravely timidly peeked in there this morning there are definitely signs of a critter visit last night.  If I could I would stay out of the kitchen today, but that’s not going to happen, so I will be making lots of noise while doing my work today.

This one is for Vicky—-because back in April when we  bought this

sold

she commented that she could totally imagine a wreath on that front door.  Well, you know what Vic?  I found one.  I was beginning to think I wouldn’t find one this year.   I refused to settle for “something”; I wanted to LOVE it!  Well, I do.  And, you know that saying —- everything is bigger in Texas?  Well, that’s true as well.  I loved it, I splurged and bought it and I can use it year after year to adorn half of my door!

This my friends is my favorite shot of the week.

A few countdowns…

are going on in my house at the moment.

The first one:  10 days until Shealyn’s 9th birthday (when did that happen?)

2nd—13 days until Christmas

And the third one is my countdown only, since the kids don’t know yet.

18 days until Michael, Donna, Haylee and Laney arrive!

Lots of exciting things coming up in our house.

I hope you’re all enjoying the Christmas season and making time for your family and friends!
