They’re 8 hours away

If you remember from previous posts some of our dearest friends are driving from Michigan to be with us for Thanksgiving.  When Clark checked in with them last night they figured they were about 8 hours away!  We are all giddy with anticipation–might explain why I was up at 4:45 this morning with a cake in the oven!  Yep, it’s 6:47 a.m. and I have a husband that’s gone to work, 3 sleeping children and 3 things crossed off my to do list.  It’s so exciting to know that they’re this close yet I know the hours will drag by today.  So we are praying for safe travel and we’ll see you soon Mr. Dan, Miss Kelly, Shauna and DJ!  Jessi couldn’t make the trip, but we will be thinking of you.  So don’t expect much in blogging for the rest of the week.  I’m off to finish my to do list and enjoy some great friends.

Happy Thanksgiving Y’all!

Psssst…..someone is 39 today!

Yes sireeeee, my hubby is 39 today!  And yes, this picture was taken at 5:30 this morning—-so I guess this means I can say this is officially what 39 looks like!

Clark,

No one can drive me to madness quicker than you (okay–maybe a certain unnamed 8 year old), but if I didn’t care my emotions wouldn’t float at the surface just waiting for the next wave to come crashing through.  But, all of that aside you are my friend, husband, partner in crime while trying to mold these 3 little people we’ve been given.  You are my devil’s advocate (not my favorite role you play) and aren’t afraid to call me up short if need be.  You are my sounding board, you listen to my mindless babble and are forever reminding me to finish a sentence (you should read my mind by now).  You are a hard worker and only want what’s best for your family.  With all of these things in mind—I wish you the happiest of days and know that the kids and I love you with all that we are.  Happy Birthday, you old fart!  (I can get away with that)

Our weekend

We had a fun filled weekend.  Clark came home Friday night and asked everyone to load up in the van because we were going to grandma’s for supper.  What the kids didn’t know is that grandpa had arrived.  So, they had a nice little surprise waiting for them—-they were pretty excited to see him.  Grandpa got lots of hugs and many snuggles from a certain 8 year old girl:o)

Saturday morning we were off to Carter’s league championship game.  He got to play at one of the high schools.  Those boys were floating to think they were playing BIG TIME!  They did a great job and are now the CHAMPIONS!!!!  Go Colts!  This team did a fabulous job.  They started their season 0-4 and came back to win it all —– you have to be proud.  Note:  I’m not one of those mom’s that believes or encourages winning everything (their 5 & 6) just tells him to do his best every time he’s on the field and to have fun.  But, this was pretty exciting to see the underdogs win!  My proudest moment of the day——————Carter lost his shoe while trying to run down an opponent and he never stopped he just kept going and going.  Anyway, a couple of pics from Saturday.

I had more, but they all involved the other boys and I didn’t want to include them on my blog without parent permission.

Then we headed off to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate the season.  Let’s just say the kids had fun!  Now we have the ALL STAR game left in December and football will officially be done for the year.

We came home and just kind of kicked back.  Clark went out to his deer lease for the first time with his dad and the kids and I were settling in for what I thought was going to be a relaxing evening.  You know—have an easy supper, movie for the kids, put the kids to bed, watch a chick flick and then go to bed myself.  Well, the first 3 happened.  We were watching the kids’ movie when Shealyn asked where Maizie was.  I had let her out and in the hustle and bustle of getting the kids ready I forgot to let her in (she does not scratch at the door).  When I went to check she was gone.  She had dug a new hole through the opposite corner of the fence.  I called and called for her, drove the neighborhood a couple of times with no luck.  So needless to say, Shealyn went to bed thinking all the worse things an 8 year old can think…what if she’s lying in the road somewhere, what if Mater ate her (the Great Dane next door) or what if someone took her?  She was crying and a little upset with her mom.  I reassured her that Maizie would come back and everything would be fine (really not sure at all).  Yet, my worst fear was the coyotes.  Needless to say, I kept checking at the back door every 1/2 hour or so until I went to bed at 11:00.  I went to bed without Maizie.  I woke up at 2 –no Maizie, 4– no Maizie, Shealyn joined me in bed at 6–no Maizie, finally got up at 7:15 –no Maizie, drove around the neighborhood again–no Maizie, somewhere in here Shealyn goes back to bed crying telling me it’s all my fault if she doesn’t come back, 8:30 — no Maizie, 9:30 the doorbell rings.  It’s the neighbor telling me Maizie was standing in their driveway at 11:30 when they got home.  Whew!  Maizie spent the night in their bathroom and was pretty excited to see us and slept most of Sunday!  Needless to say Miss Maizie now has every potty break supervised.  Now, if you’d learn to not dig you might get a little privacy Miss Maizie Blue!

After the excitement of an early Sunday  morning the kids and I were off to church, then came home to relax, do a little housework and some laundry and wait for daddy’s return.  Once he was home he did a few “honey do’s” for me and then he totally relaxed.  All the kids including Clark were in bed by 8 and I got the evening to myself.  I relaxed!

Zella Berdella

On this day 95 years ago my grandma was born!  My grandma, the woman who gave my dad life so in turn I could have life.  She is an an amazingly strong woman.  This is a woman I have never seen cry!  She has lost 3 brothers one of which passed away on her birthday.  She has watched one of her children die, she has had to make a few visits to the hospital to watch another son recuperate from heart attacks, wait for the call that 2 of her sons have come out of surgeries okay.  She heard of President Kennedy’s assassination on her 50th birthday!  Can we really appreciate everything a 95 year old has seen in her lifetime?  Just think how much times have changed from back in the day!

She is mother to 7, grandmother to 25, great grandmother to 39 and a great great grandmother to 2!  How many women get to boast about that?

Regardless, this is a birthday wish to my grandma——–Zella Berdella (yes, that is her real name)!  I wasn’t with you to celebrate, but I was with you in spirit!  I hope it was a great day and you had a chance to catch up with many who came to celebrate YOU!!

Love you grandma!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Can you believe it?  I have another Payton funny.  She was sitting on Clark’s lap quietly earlier this week when all of a sudden she looks very seriously at her daddy and asks………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Why do you have a beard in your nose, daddy?

Hahahahahahahhahaha—-I almost fell out of my chair.

Daddy’s response to his sincere 4  year old……………………(managing trying to keep a straight face)  No, baby that’s jut hair in daddy’s nose.

Do you realize how entertained we’ll be one day to look back on these and laugh?

Crafty Tuesday

I’m not sure what’s gotten into this household, but we have some things to show this week.  First of all, this was actually a craft that another mom put together here at our house, but we’re going to be doing it with Shealyn’s class this week.  Each grade level has a themed tree to decorate and the room mom’s are in charge of creating a crafty ornament that the kids can make, hang on the tree and then wrap and take home to their parents as a gift.  Our theme is candy and we were in charge of coming up with a cupcake ornament.  Down side—I know what Shealyn is making me, but I’m so excited to hang it on my tree.  This picture does not do it justice, but they are so darn cute.

We took plastic, glittery Christmas ornaments (color of their choosing) that we got here and glued them into the bottom of cupcake liners.  Then we used puffy paint to give it the dollop of frosting look, sprinkled glass, seed beads on the glue for what really look like sprinkles.  Although we didn’t do it here, we decided it’s best to let the puff paint completely dry and then add a jingle bell as a cherry and there you have it!

Payton and I sat down and worked on a turkey craft last week.  It was done in stages—we cut out the feathers, head, painted the paper plate a little, left it for a little, came back to it a little.  This kind of went on all day.  She got a little sidetracked with the painting because she insisted on having a rainbow turkey :o )   Anyway, as I was helping Shealyn with homework I noticed Carter sat down with Payton and helped her finish “up” including the assembling.  I was going to use staples, but there was no way I was going to say anything about his innovative way of using tape :o )  And this cute little turkey will grace my wall of Thanksgiving crafts created by all 3 of my kids throughout the years.

This is a whole other form of craftiness, but is worthy of noting.  My Miss P took it upon herself to empty the bookshelves last night and spread them all through the entry way because she was making a Ninja Warrior course (an obstacle course invented by the Chinese and is a show on TV that my kids can’t understand, but read subtitles and just love to watch the few that conquer the very difficult course).  Maybe Mr. Dan can enlighten me on why this makes her think of the starting “pad” of the course since you are the one who turned my kids onto this show :o )

And here she is so proud of her accomplishment!  I wonder if she’ll feel as proud when all of those books have to go back to the shelf?

Kids Say the Darndest Things

No worries if you were wondering if there was something funny said in our house this week.  Once again I was provided with the perfect conversation to share with you today.  It’s short and sweet and it’s courtesy of the one and only Miss P.  One night this week our conversation went like this:

M—P, it’s time to get ready for a bath.

P—Why do I have to take a bath?   I didn’t TOOT at all today!

The 4 year old rationale—gotta love it.  But, I will tell you —- she did get a bath.

Another Booking!!

I just got word today that my borther, sister in law and 2 nieces are coming to see us December 30 – January 3rd!  I am so excited to have more family coming in!  Okay, so now we’ve had company in October and the first couple days of November, some of our bestest friends arrive Thanksgiving week (so that’s 2 sets of company in November—yeah), my brother and family to bring in the New Year, that leaves February open before our next visitors arrive in March.  Any takers for February?  The anticipation is wonderful!

Oxymoron?

Please ignore the hair (we’re growing it out and it’s driving me crazy) and the remnants of dinner on her face, but do any of you see the oxymoron in this picture?

Hint:  you have to read her shirt and then think of the rest of her outfit

Best Shot Monday

I had to hold one Halloween picture back because this one immediately screamed BSM to me.  You may interpret this face anyway you wish, but I just found it too priceless that she is dressed as a dog, is in this position and has “that” look on her face.
