Can you describe excited in 1 sentence?

I FILLED UP FOR A $1.95/GALLON TODAY!!

Maizie pictures

As I mentioned last week, I took Maizie to the groomer and I realized I hadn’t posted pictures.

Here are some before pictures of our little moppy dog.

Look where I found her—-guess what I’m a big meanie b/c I made her get down.

Here she is freshly cut and trimmed.

And here she greets P one morning as she is just waking up and coming downstairs.

Pumpkin Patch

A post in pictures.  As I promised pictures from our visit to the pumpkin patch.

Shealyn with the Kung Fu Panda Gang.

Carter strikes a pose with Tigress.

Bertha, a 25 year old spur thighed tortoise.

She came out to enjoy some lunch!

P. in the bounce house.

All 3 of them trying to come down the slide at the same time.

Carter at the TOP of the hay mound.

Shealyn getting the hay out!

It started out just P and I were riding and then Carter joined in.  Needless to say it was a little cramped in the caboose!

The anticipation is making us giddy

The arrival of Uncle Timmy (my little brother) is today!  We’re all excited and the kids have been counting down days ever since they’ve known he was coming.  P has told him that she’s going to run right up to him and give him a hug :o )  So, we’ll be off to the airport to pick him up later and he’ll be here until Monday.  This is your heads up that you may not see Halloween pictures until sometime next week!  Of course, we’ll be trick-or-treating while he’s here along with showing him a Texas rodeo and who knows what else.  Have a great Halloween all and we’ll catch up with you later.

Not only are we excited to see him and have fun all weekend, but we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Grandma McNulty after today.  She is driving down with her sister and will arrive today.  She, however, will be here ALL winter.  Grandpa’s coming, too, but we’ve learned he does everything in his own time:o)

Best Shot Monday

We had a fun filled Sunday and that’s where my Best Shot Monday was taken.  Actually, it wasn’t even taken by me.  We took the kids to a really fun pumpkin patch (pictures to come later) and well, honestly just too hard to pick which picture was my favorite.  I went a completely different route and you’ll just have to tell me if this person is a figment of your imagination?

For any of you that know him would have no problem telling me who that shadow belongs to.  But, in case you don’t know him this is my hubby’s shadow!

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Oh yes, it’s Friday and I have another funny for you.  Anybody wanna guess which child provided this week’s story?

My silly 4 year old, Payton.

Last week she came over to me as I was walking out of the bathroom and this conversation followed:

P—Mommy, how come you never poop?

M–(stifling a giggle)  I do poop P., everybody poops.

P–Ohh

(I see the next question formulating in her inquisitive, little mind)

P–How come we never see you then?

M–Because I shut the door when I poop.

P–Ohhh

P–Mommy, you have to make noise like this (imagine all the bathroom grunts and sounds a 4 year old makes doing her duty)

M–Oh, okay (really stifling that giggle now and thinking what a great post this is going to be for my blog)

P–And mommy your face looks like this (again, imagine all the facial grimaces that go along with the sound effects)

M–Okay.

There you have it — a 4 year old that thinks I don’t poop and directions on how to go about my business.  Did I mention she likes to sing while doing her business as well.  This quite often mortifies Shealyn.  I guess hearing High School Musical songs coming from the bathroom while your 4 year old sister is doing her business just don’t go hand in hand :o )

Brrrr….

Okay, not that you Michiganders really have any sympathy for us, but today when we woke up it was OFFICIALLY cold!  It was 37 degrees.  I turned the furnace on for the first time ever this morning.  I didn’t think my family would appreciate crawling out of a warm, snuggly bed to a slightly nippy 68 degrees in the house.  The kids wore coats to school for the first time today.  I wore jeans for the first time since leaving Michigan (136 days straight of shorts or capris), but I refuse to give up on these:

I’m a flip flop wearing kind of girl.

She fits and She’s spoiled…

Miss Maizie that is!  I slept horribly the first night Maizie was in the house—it was kind of like the first night we brought Shealyn home from the hospital.  You lay there half wide awake in anticipation of them needing you.  Yes, I did that with Maizie.  I was just sure she was going to need out in the middle of the night or whine.  Well, I’m proud to say she did none of that.  She slept through the night, she didn’t need me, she didn’t whine.  I crawled out of bed and thought, wow, can it really be this easy?  Well, for me yes.  Shealyn, on the other hand, told me that Maizie came in her room at midnight and whined until she woke.  Shealyn did wake up and gladly took the dog back to her bed and then gladly climbed back into her own!  Then Shealyn was up for the day at 5:30.  I’m not sure if it was because her clock was accidentally set an hour fast or if it was simply excitement to get up and greet the new day with a DOG IN THE HOUSE!!!  My vote goes for the latter.

Yesterday was the first test of leaving her alone for a while in the morning.  P and I had plans so we dropped the 2 oldest off at school and didn’t return home until noon.  I was a bit apprehensive because when we left, Maizie was at the window barking.  I didn’t want to return to some upset neighbors, nor did I want to return to a mess in the house.  But, I figured it would be easier to clean my house than make mends with new neighbors, so we left her in the house.  P and I returned 4 and 1/2 hours later to a quiet, “un” messed house.  Whew, is this dog for real?  She is so good (I know I am literally knocking on wood right now).

For the first time yesterday she got to enjoy the backyard by herself.  Shealyn went out to play with her and she was gone!  We went out front and called for her and still didn’t see her.  Just as we started down the sidewalk to look for her the bus pulled up to drop the neighbor boys off and Maizie came out of nowhere and ran right to one of them.  Another WHEW!!!  She escaped under the fence.  We obviously have a low spot that she can scoot under (because there are no signs of digging).  I immediately called Clark and told him to see if he could find some scrap wood to bring home to make sure the dog doesn’t get out again.  I cringe to think if I had left her out while P and I were gone.  I would have had some heartbroken kids.

Then last night I took Carter to practice and Clark stayed home with the girls and a lot of spoiling happened while mommy was gone.  Isn’t that how it always goes?  Carter and I walked in about 7:40 last night to bathed girls in jammies and a wet dog.  Conversation follows:

Me—why is Maizie wet?

S–She took a bath

M–Oh?

S—with P and I.

M–What?

S—Dad put her in YOUR tub with us and washed her because she stinks!

M—Nice

(Guess what I’m doing today?—————cleaning tub)

I was more worried that she scratched the bejeebers out of one of the girls, but oh no, not our perfect miss.  She patiently sat there like a little lady and let Clark wash her!

My dad made the comment when he saw her picture with the kids that it looks as though she’s been part of the family all along.  You know what?  It does kind of seem that way!

I’ll post more pictures of her tomorrow after her visit to the groomer for a long overdue haircut!  I’m not even sure what a schnauzer is supposed to look like :o )

Oh My, Oh My…

I’m not sure what I’ve done?  Actually, I’ve made my kids pretty darn happy and Shealyn can’t wipe the smile off her face.  Clark brought home a dog tonight (that I agreed to)!  I’ve been reluctant to do this only because I know how much work it could mean for me.  I know—totally selfish reasons.  Oh yeah, and I didn’t really want to train a puppy in a brand new house.

Anyway, Clark e-mailed me this afternoon and said there was a guy that works for him that needed to get rid of his dogs.  They are moving to an apartment and can’t have pets.  Clark told him we might be interested in one of them, but he would have to check with me first.  VERY SMART MAN!!!  Anyway, they brought the dog over to meet P and I.  I was impressed—-she’s very well behaved, obeys commands, is house broken, is great with kids, she’s 3 years old and doesn’t shed.  WOW!  Pretty tough to beat all of those qualities.  Oh…………and the best part……………….her name is Maizie!  Now, how could that be any more perfect for a family who moved from Michigan and who has a husband that is a huge MICHIGAN fan?  I told Clark I would think on it and call him later.  Truth be told I was sold when she was here; I just didn’t want to witness her owner having to part with her.  Yep, emotional ole me didn’t want to see a grown man cry.  Clark told me he didn’t; he was just more happy to see her go to a good home and know she was going to get lots of loving and attention.

So, Clark got out of work a little early and went and got the necessary “stuff” for a dog and brought her home to unsuspecting kids.  Shealyn didn’t really think anything of it when Clark walked in with her, but the minute we told Shealyn she was ours she was on her knees with her face buried in her fur.  Definitely a moment of love at first sight!  Carter and P love her too, but Shealyn has been asking for a dog for at least 4 years now.  In the 2 short hours she’s been with us she’s been walked, loved on, had her very fresh poop scooped, fed, watered, given dog treats and lots of loving.

Oh, are you waiting to see her?  Okay, let me introduce our new miniature schnauzer (in dire need of a trim), Miss MAIZIE!!

Best Shot Monday

I love seeing the world through my kids’ eyes.  Unfortunately, I haven’t done enough of it lately.  But, this morning as P and I were getting back from dropping Shealyn and Carter off I had one of those moments!  I was getting her out of the van and she said, “look mommy, there’s an X in the sky.”

Right she was —there were 2!!  Since we live within 30 miles of a major airport I’m sure there are many more instances like this, but leave it to my 4 year old to make her mommy notice!  She then wandered into the house and I followed to grab my camera so I could capture the x’s in the sky.  But, then she got me thinking and I got to looking around the vast blue sky and look what I saw—my best shot Monday–a half moon.
