OK, OK, OK! I was the worst at snidely pointing out the days Kimmer did not post. “If you are going to blog, you have an obligation to the people reading it to be consistant.” Oh yeah, I actully said that! What a schmuck!!!! Well, needless to say she her first words to me on Monday were, “You didn’t blog yesterday, did you?” I couldn’t say a word, Humble Pie served! Anyway, it just goes to show you that what comes around goes around. It can never be said that I don’t admit when I’m in the wrong so to all you readers that were disappointed that I didn’t post last Sunday, I am sorry.
The exciting happenings for me last week was “Deer Camp Work Day”. My father and I have joined a deer lease down here in Texas. We got very lucky to find a lease, and even luckier in the fact that it is only an hour and fifteen minutes from my house. When we lived down here in the 80’s, our lease was located just south of Bronwood, Tx. i.e. 3 hour drive. Our new lease is in Jacksboro, Tx. much closer. Anyway, those of you who know me at all are aware of my passion for hunting and those of you who that have hunted with me know that I especially enjoy the comraderie of camp even more.
We are on this lease with 8 other people and all of them are like minded of what deer camp should be be like. All have younger children and camp is being set up as very family friendly. Our work day went off without a hitch as we upgraded many of the facilities. Needless to say, I have been assigned the job of keeping the electrical systems in good working order. With six cabins and two RV’s on site, that is a pretty tall task. Everything is in working order, but I am planning to upgrade some of it as it is old and hasn’t been used in two years.
For those of you that have never seen the Texas countryside I have taken these pictures.

Open Fields

Beautiful Ridges

Watering Holes

1 Nice Little Lake
There is a brief overview of the property. I will post pictures of the cabins when I get them. The property has deer, dove, and ducks on it. The land owner also said we will probably run into coyotes and an occasional feral hog. He also told us that badgers and bobcat have been seen on it as well and they are fair game!
Dad and I are very excited about this coming deer season and are hoping for great success. We had a ball hunting these Texas deer twenty years ago and are hoping to pick up where we left off.
That’s it from me, check back on Sunday and I promise I won’t disappoint you.
