My heart is heavy and it hurts tonight

Shealyn came home from school today and informed me that 2 little boys (twins) in her class lost their house to fire last night.  This mom and I have become friends over the last couple years and my heart hurts so much for her.  I admire her so much; she is a single mom raising 4 boys and has no help.  She never complains, just plugs along.

When Shealyn first told me this I didn’t want to believe it, so I started investigating to make sure things were true and not misconstrued in the mind of an 8 year old.  I called the local paper and was able to determine that it was indeed their house that had burned and he led me to the Red Cross which put them up in a neighboring town.  The next step was to find where (the man I talked to did not actually handle their case so he was not sure where they were).  With help from some very helpful people I was able to locate them.  Three of her 4 boys were home and got out safely.  THANK GOD!  It was apparently an electrical fire in one of the bedrooms.  So, please just keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.  I have talked to her and she is obviously very overwhelmed and not really sure where to go from here, but definitely is MOST THANKFUL that her boys are safe and their family is intact.

Living on pins and needles

The “For Sale” sign went up Saturday.  So, this officially means I – we are living on pins and needles.  This stresses me to a point I haven’t been in a long while.  I don’t claim to be the best housekeeper so just keeping on top of the housework overwhelms me.  And I have to say with the exception of my desk ( I can close that to the rest of the world) the house looks pretty damn good.  Clark and I whipped it into shape Saturday morning so we could list it and then the kids and I are doing our best to stay on top of it.  Although it’s frustrating that I dusted yesterday afternoon and when I looked last night the furniture really could have been dusted again—–uuuugghhh!

Right now I feel as if the kids can’t play with much of anything for fear we’ll get a call and they’ll want to show it in an hour or so.  This did happen yesterday.  P and I were just getting back from errands when the realtor called and wanted to show it at 2.  Fine I agreed to that, but then I had to limit P’s play.  She wanted to play on the computer so bad, but I knew it would be easier to tell her “no” then rather than to pull her off in the middle of a game.  Anyway, the realtor called at 1:20 and said we’re in the neighborhood.  Oh man, I need 5 minutes to get out.  She called back 2 minutes later (they’re sitting in front of the house) and told me they didn’t want to look.  Our location is too sub-division-ish.  Okay, I have to admit a little bit of disappointment, but thought “Wow!  I have a really clean house!”

Aside from living on pins and needles maybe I’ll come out of this a better housekeeper :o )  Just already I can tell I prefer being on the buying end rather than the selling end.  Okay, I might change my mind when it comes time to load all the boxes and then unload them in the new house.  For now, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

This is my favorite one of Carter without his tooth, but do notice he’s holding it to show everyone!  Look at those eyes—think someone besides his momma is going to fall in love with those one day?

A first for Carter

As you know, we had daddy home for the weekend and daddy made a huge discovery!  Carter had a loose tooth!  Clark discovered it Friday night and Carter had NO CLUE!  As a matter of fact it was loose enough that it was going to come out soon.  So here is what transpired at our house Saturday night.

We were in the middle of Yahtzee and every few rolls he’d go over and let daddy try.  And let me tell you daddy WAS trying.  Clark wanted it out worse than anyone.  He was working in Florida when Shealyn lost her first tooth.  After much diligence it popped out.  This is now how my boy looks.

Notice P. looking over his shoulder.  She hates to think she’s going to miss out on a photo opportunity; not to mention she tried very hard to convince her daddy that she had a loose tooth, too!

Happy Birthday Bayleigh J.

Today, my niece turns 2!  We celebrated her birthday last weekend, but today it’s official—YOU ARE 2!!  Let the terribleness (not sure it’s a word) begin.  As I like to say, there’s no reason you’re momma (my sister) should get out of this easy.  And I have no doubt you will give her a run for her money!

Inspite of you blatanly ignoring Aunt Kim I still love you.  Have a great day!

We love you, Cark, Kim, Sheain, Caahhter, and P.

The above is what she calls all of us!

I’ll let you in on a little secret

Shhhh…..don’t utter a word in the presence of my children.  Clark is coming home for the weekend!  The kids don’t know so I’m sure the screams of excitement will be at an unmentionable volume for pre 7:00 am when they wake up Friday morning and discover daddy’s home!

Meanwhile, I’m trying to get everything in order so we can JUST HANG OUT!  Obviously, I’m not feeling like doing much of anything right now if I’m sitting at the computer.  Anyway, remember Mum’s the word.  I know it all seems silly since most of you that read this aren’t going to see the kids before Friday, but it makes for a fun post.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Wow!!  The kids are on a sugar high like you wouldn’t believe!  Gotta love school parties!  Shealyn and Carter are running/crawling around playing pets—-I just had to tell them to take it to the other room!  “Pets” is one of my least favorite games they play.  I don’t mind if they do it in their bedrooms, but not only was the noise level getting too high; we’ve lost too many belt loops from the leash—-I guess that’s better than strangling each other.  Yes, they used to think it was okay to tie the leash around each other’s neck.

Anyway, I got side tracked.  The kids had fun celebrating Valentine’s in each of their classes today.  What I really wanted to say was when watching Shealyn write out her valentine’s last week it brought back so many memories.  For the first time in her school career she was actually able to address them to specific children in her class.  Let me explain, up until this point she has simply just signed her name and it was totally random as to which kid got what valentine.  But, it was cute watching her do it because she was so nonchalant in which ones she gave to which kids.  I remember being very concerned with who I gave specific Valentine’s to—-she was not at ALL and I was so happy to see that.

So, now to peel them off the ceiling today from that extreme sugar buzz is going to be a challenge.   Eight o’clock will be wonderful tonight!  Be right back……………..

Guess what?  I just got the most beautiful bouquet with mini red carnations and big beautiful yellow roses and some purple flower (sorry don’t know what it is) and three individual carnations came for the kids!  Thanks Clark, Love you!

Anyway, hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day and are able to spend it with someone special to your heart.

I’ve become a scratching post

He’s going to kill me for this post someday, but I was laughing too hard and thinking I’VE GOT TO BLOG THIS!!  Remember the post of Carter’s top 10 reasons for coming to my room in the middle of the night—–this blog is about his #1 reason.

Last night Carter was sprawled out on my lap reading me his book and he was having some serious butt issues!  Yeah, apparently that itchy butt thing hasn’t gone away.  He’d alternate between itching it the good ole fashion way and using me as his scratching post.  He’d move back and forth, up and down on my lap just to itch his butt.  It was too funny and I couldn’t help but laugh which teetered between aggravating him and cracking him up into hytserical giggles.  This gives a whole new meaning to –I’d do just about anything for my kids.

And maybe just maybe youy won’t find this as comical as I did—maybe you had to be there.

Another cute P. story

Today, the kids were playing with Carter’s forest and jungle animals in his room.  They like to get bowls of water and make it the animals’ wading pools or drinking holes.  Anyway, I was enjoying a good novel when P. came running out:

P—momma, can you put my hair up in 2 pony holders I want to drink water like the animals and not get my hair wet?

m— sure, go get me 2 pony tail holders

she runs to the bathroom to grab them

p–look mommy, I got a dark pink and a morning (light) pink

So, my Miss P. ran around in her panties and her 2 ponies and drank water like the animals.
