Let me start this by saying our typical Wednesday routine is to go to story hour at our library and from there we go to to McDonald’s for lunch with other families. This time has become as much for the mom’s as the kids. Well, today I had to do what is embarassing to most mom’s I know — leave with 3 screaming kids!! It all started with Shealyn tattling and escalating into a screaming match with me and Carter not listening and whining (for once P. wasn’t in the middle of it). I had warned Shealyn if she didn’t stop yelling and Carter if he didn’t stop whining that we were leaving. I don’t think they thought I was serious, but guess what —- I WAS!! Like I said, I look forward to this as much as the kids, but it wasn’t to be today. Hopefully a lesson learned for my kids, or until the next time anyway, right?

I have a few happenings that I want to put on here, so you’ll have to bear with me on the multiple posts for now. Last Friday, Shealyn, Carter and I went canoeing with Grandpa McNulty. This was a first for Shealyn and Carter and you would have thought it was mine as well. Shealyn started out with me and Carter with grandpa. The first time Shealyn and I crashed she asked when she could switch canoes. So, yes I am not a great navigator, but I sure provided some laughs down the river. Pat, (grandpa) just came to expect that if there was a tree hanging over the river I was going to be in it. As promised to the kids, halfway down the river they got to switch canoes. Carter and I were doing pretty well until we got stuck under a tree with Pat and Shealyn in front of us. After trying with all of our might to get us out I had to get out to actually pull us out from under the tree. Carter was very nervous when it was time for me to climb back in —– but I did it w/o even tipping us!! Then as we were trying to catch up Shealyn and Pat thought it would be fun to hide in a small off shoot of the river and scare us. It worked!! I believe it was after this crash (yes there were many more throughout the 2 hours we were on the river) that Carter said, “mom, I think we should get a new canoe.” That’s my boy! Anyway, we made it out of the river safely and I was the only one who had a war wound and that was only a small scratch on my shoulder.
After the canoe trip we headed to lunch which was uneventful and then it was on to the Cindy Lou’s Petting Zoo. This is a zoo we’ve been to many times, but grandpa had never been there. The kids had a lot of fun introducing grandpa to many of the animals they know by name. And as Carter and grandpa were walking along he looked up at grandpa and said, “I just can’t seem to get that canoeing off my mind.” So, you tell me — do you think they had fun?
Last night Payton was saying good night to Clark and this is how their conversation went:
Daddy: Love you, Miss P.
Payton: no answer
Daddy: Love you, Miss P.
Payton: Love you too, daddy
Payton: Daddy, I love your checkbook, too!!
Clark and I were rolling! But, the funny part of this story is that checkbook has 2 meanings in our house. P’s definition of a checkbook is a “novel” and the actual checkbook is called “checking.” Every once in awhile we will find Payton in our bed with one of the books or ”checkbooks” he or myself happens to be reading.
Well, it was a hot, humid day here in northern Michigan. But … the kids and I didn’t seem to notice. We spent it at the beach! What a perfect day. What is it about the beach that just puts everybody in a good mood and seems to help everyone get along? We had fun swimming and playing, oh yeah, and trying to catch minnows. No luck on the minnows though. And while the kids built castles on the beach I managed to read a few chapters uninterrupted. That’s always an added bonus, too. So, we all came home sunkissed and happy! Another perk that all of us mommies are aware of is that all that fresh air is the best medicine for sleep.
Okay, this is it, I’ve joined the blogging world. I was inspired by my friend Carrie who blogs about her 2 little girls and life happenings. I look so forward to reading her blogs on a daily basis since they are on the west coast and I thought maybe some of our friends and family would enjoy hearing about the McNulty clan on a more regular basis. Bear with me, but I hope you will enjoy my blog as much as I have enjoyed reading other “mom” blogs.
